Weird World
by Zac Langridge
What a weird world we live in!
Months ago, it was as usual
Life went on without ceasing
And petty squabbles ruled all
It was about I, not we
But now we’re ground to a halt
And the engine’s been put to a standstill
And we’re looking out for each other
Except for a few… unfortunately
It’s a funny ol’ world we live in
The last decade seemed like chaos
But now with the addition of hindsight
It seems the far more desirable life, now
Yet it’s not all hopeless
Life still goes on
Just on a smaller scale
Confined
But that’s the thing
That’s not fun!
That’s not freedom!
But it’s not so bad
We’re still alive
We’re well
We’re with each other
And we have the power to stop it all
But we’re missing out on so much!
All the things I could’ve done
But chose not too at the time
Now I can’t do them at all
Until this is all over
But we’ve got each other’s backs
So even though people are dying
And bodies are filling excavated land in docks
The world is not feeling as though it’s at an end
It seems odd, that hope should be felt
More prominently in times of strife
Than in the cyclical normality of urban life
But that’s human nature... petty or what?
But that’s just the weird world we live in now
And when it’s over, we’ll forget it not
THE END
